Proximity

… to make the most of the town!

The Greeks settled in Arles circa 540 B.C. Then in 46 B.C. Julius Caesar founded there a Roman colony. The town thrived and superb monuments listed at UNESCO World heritage still testify it today: The Cryptoporticos of the Forum, the Amphitheatre, the Theatre, the Circus, the Roman Baths.
The Antique Arles Museum: On 3000m2 of permanent exhibition, the museum gathers the whole legacy of Ancient Arles.
There are two other important museums in Arles:
The Reattu Museum: This museum located in an ancient Malta commandery gathers art collections from XIII to XIX century and 57 drawings by Picasso…
The Arlaten Museum: founded by the poet Frederic Mistral, features marvellous collections of artefacts from Provencal everyday life.
Apart from Roman remains, Arles boasts other riches:
The church and cloister Saint Trophime with its porch considered the masterpiece of Provencal Romanesque School.
The Alyscamps Necropolis (Elysian Fields), a large alley lined with tombs.
